Skipping To The Piccolo

Who I am

understand you have been taught that because I am gay that I am an abomination.
I understand that for you to accept me that you compromise the foundation on which you stand.
I understand that your beliefs are very important to you. I understand that you want to stand up for your convictions and you seek to be pleasing in the eyes of God.
Let me begin by saying I do not wish to change your mind. I don't wish for you to throw away your beliefs, put on a pride shirt and march for me. The most I hope for is for you to give me the same respect I give you. Nothing more, Nothing less.
If you were not so important to me I could walk away. I could shake my head, sigh, and wonder how long it will take for the world to change.
The fact is, YOU matter. I love you. I love your children.
I am pretty sure that somewhere inside you, you love me too.
What I hope to accomplish with this letter is to propose another way for you to look at things.
My first example is from Acts.
'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.' " (Acts 13:16-22).
If we look closer at this verse, and forget that David was a great King, that David killed Goliath, only look at the humanity of David. David was very flawed. David had some serious moral slip-ups — he seduced the beautiful Bathsheba then sent her husband off to war to die. He danced drunk, and naked before the whole of Israel. David was greedy, and lustful. He was flawed because he was human. Although God did not approve of the things that David done, and he was punished for them, the fact was he always loved him and out of all the great men in the bible David was called the man after Gods own heart. John 15 verse 11 says "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." David is a perfect example of the way Christ loved us. Unconditionally.
I could go through the bible and list the people that Jesus saw good in. He didn't love the most righteous or the ones with the fewest mistakes. The example of Love that Christ gave was to love everyone as we love ourself.
'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." (NAS, Mark 12:28-31) Christ loved us in spite of our humanity. Our very nature makes us selfish self indulgent, greedy, and sinful. Yet knowing none of us were perfect, that none of us were above sin, he chose to come and die for us.

I would also like to point out to you that in biblical times the context of homosexuality was never loving committed relationships. In biblical times the context of homosexuality was usually seen for example in the temple of Artemis where adult men had sex with young prepubescent slave boys. No one could ever agree that homosexuality in this context was right. It was and is WRONG in that context.
I was created in God's image, as you were. I grew up knowing I was different. If me acting on my homosexual nature is a sin, it is one that I will answer to when I meet my maker. I do not wish to force the acceptance of homosexuality on you in any way. I am telling you, I have read the bible I have prayed for direction, and I have made a choice based on the information provided to me, to be true to myself. If I am wrong in making that choice, I will be the one accountable. I feel your belief that homosexuality is wrong, was your choice to make ,and I do not seek to change your mind. I want us to agree that it is within both our rights, to choose what we believe, and what path in life to follow.

"For if you forgive men for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. "But if you do not forgive men, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. (NAS, Matthew 6:14-15)
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. (NIV, Matthew 7:1-5)
